JumpCloud doesn&#8217;t support anonymous binds. When a user is designated as the Bind DN, they&#8217;re automatically bound to the JumpCloud LDAP directory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To create a binding user:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in to the <a href=\"https:\/\/console.jumpcloud.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Admin Portal<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card important\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/important-icon.png\"\/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Important:<\/strong> \n<p>If your data is stored outside of the US, check which login URL you should be using depending on your region. If your organization uses LDAP, RADIUS, or requires firewall allow list configuration, the Fully Qualified Domain Names (FQDNs) will also be region specific. See <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/jumpcloud-data-centers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">JumpCloud Data Centers<\/a> for the URLs, FQDNs, and IP addresses.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Identity Management &gt; Users<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click ( <strong>+<\/strong> ), then select <strong>Manual user entry<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the <strong>User Information<\/strong>:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First Name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Last Name<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Required) Username<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(Required) Company Email<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Description<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>User Security Settings and Permission<\/strong>\u200b &gt; <strong>Permission Settings<\/strong>\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b, check the box next to <strong>Enable as LDAP Bind DN<\/strong>. Any JumpCloud user can be set as a binding user, although it&#8217;s generally recommended to treat this account as privileged for use only to facilitate the application&#8217;s ability to bind\/search the LDAP directory.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This option does <strong>not<\/strong> grant all LDAP users access to LDAP. To grant access, see <a href=\"https:\/\/jumpcloud.com\/support\/connect-new-users-to-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Connecting Users to Resources &#8211; Grant Access<\/a> to learn more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>More than one user may be designated as an LDAP binding user. It may be referred to as the BindDN or may only have a username field paired with a password. This is the correct value for that field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The BaseDN may also be referred to as SearchDN, Search Base, or other similar terminology.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LDAP service is Read-Only. As a result, ldapmodify and ldapadd are currently not supported. Any modifications to LDAP users will require the use of either the JumpCloud web console or <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.jumpcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our JumpCloud API<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you experience connection errors, ensure that your firewall isn\u2019t configured to block traffic to port 389.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The LDAP protocol doesn&#8217;t limit the number of concurrent connections you can have. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For example, you can have multiple NAS devices connected to LDAP using the same Bind DN account.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Examples of Usage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cgb-notification-card-wysiwyg notification-card note\"><div class=\"notification-card-content\"><div class=\"notification-card-icon\"><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/themes\/jumpcloud\/assets\/images\/gutenberg-blocks\/note-icon.png\" \/><\/p><\/div><div class=\"notification-card-copy is-type-body-default\"><div><strong class=\"notification-card-type\">Note:<\/strong> \n<p>LDAP apps typically authenticate against uid, which is the JumpCloud username, not the full email address.<\/p>\n <\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using ldapsearch, to filter by inetOrgPerson objectClass.
